Fifa and the Poppy

The English are in uproar again. This time because Fifa wouldn’t allow them to wear a poppy on their shirts when they played Scotland on 11 November 2016. Fifa have now decided to open disciplinary proceedings against them.

Rightly so, Fifa rules are clear and if you break them you should bear the consequences. I can still understand a few people mumbling under their collective breaths and having an extra cup of tea, but the outrage is ridiculous.  Incredible levels of arrogance. How dare you apply your laws and rules to us, the English?

Poppies have become a symbol of remembrance for soldiers who have died during wartime. That includes those who have died fighting Fascism during World War II. Many of those that voted for Brexit, and thus with the Fascist groups in England, are now complaining about Fifa disrespecting the memory of those who died. One can only laugh. Do they fail to see that they have already disrespected those who died fighting Fascism on 23 June 2016? When you voted for Brexit you voted you against everything those soldiers died for fighting in Europe during WWII.

If you are one of those that voted for Brexit but are now complaining about Fifa you need to ask yourself some hard questions.  Do you honestly mean it when you want to honour those who fought against Fascism? If yes, how did it get to the stage where you sided with the Fascist?
